Parking - an update
The Orchard Centre was recently bought by British Land whose purpose is to create and manage outstanding places. The Orchard Centre is an important part of Didcot’s town centre and supports a diverse and thriving range of retailers, including small and local businesses.
We reinvest revenue from the car park back into its maintenance, and to discount the service charges for our retailers. This reduces some of the typical cost-burdens of running a physical store that are faced by retailers across the country and helps sustain hundreds of jobs at the Orchard Centre.
Since appointing a new parking contractor and implementing amendments to our parking procedures we have been listening to concerns from the local community about issues they’ve experienced during the transition.
We are grateful for the feedback received and apologise for any confusion around our updated car parking terms and conditions, and the inconvenience caused for customers.
FAQs
Why were the parking changes made?
We have appointed Group Nexus to manage the car park at the Orchard Centre following the expiration of the previous contract with Parking Eye. Group Nexus have over thirty years’ experience operating car parks, including managing more than 1,200 across the UK and Spain.
Why have you introduced parking charges on evenings and Sundays?
Through the new contract, the car parking charges were introduced on Sundays and after 7pm to bring charges in line with the wider industry standard.
What parking app do shoppers need to pay at Didcot?
If you want to pay by app, you’ll need to download the JustPark app. When using the app, you must use the location ID 10037245 to ensure you’re paying for the right car park. The JustPark app allows payments to be made up until midnight on the same day. For customers who choose to pay via the app or telephone, JustPark apply a small administration fee.
Are the arrangements any different for blue badge holders?
The car park terms and conditions of use, and tariffs where appropriate, apply to blue badge holders on the same basis as any other customer. This is because there is no way for the ANPR system to differentiate the registrations of the blue badge holders from other customers. We do however actively monitor the use of our designated disabled parking bays with a view to ensuring they remain available for customers displaying a blue badge.
